Visa Requirements

Many people do not require a visa to visit Canada. Visit Citizenship & Immigration Canada to find out whether you will need to apply for a travel visa and how to apply for one.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

New entry requirement now in effect:

Visa-exempt foreign nationals* who fly to Canada now need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Visa-exempt travelers do not need an eTA when entering Canada by land (e.g. car or bus) or sea (e.g. cruise ship).

*Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a valid Canadian visa.

If you need an eTA, you can apply for it electronically before you travel at this link. For more info, visit this link.

Travelling to Toronto

1. Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

  • Union Pearson Express Train ($12.35) – 25 min to Union Station downtown.
  • Taxis (~$55 + tip) – 30 to 60 min to downtown.
  • Uber and Lyft  ($40-60) – 30 to 60 min to downtown.
  • Public Transit (TTC) ($3.25) – 60 to 90 min to downtown.
    • You can catch the 192 Airport Rocket bus on the lowest level of either terminal (column R4 in terminal 1, columns C8-C12 in terminal 3). At Kipling subway station (the last stop on the bus), transfer to the eastbound Bloor/Danforth subway line.
    • For most downtown hotels, transfer to a southbound subway train at either St. George or Yonge subway station.
    • Make sure you find out the closest stop to your hotel in advance.  Note that not all subway stations have elevators or escalators, so you might have to climb a flight of stairs.

2. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) via Porter Airline

  • The airport is located in downtown Toronto.
  • There is a complimentary shuttle that will take you to Union Station where you can then take the subway to the nearest stop to your hotel.
  • Taxis are located in-terminal and cost ~$10-15 to downtown.

  • Bike Share lets you rent bikes throughout the city.
  • Toronto is a very walk-able city and the best way to enjoy the city is on foot.
