#SMSociety’24 Pre-Conference Digest 3: Plan your trip!

Dear #SMSociety Conference Attendees,

We look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s #SMSociety (Tue, July 16 – Thu, July 18), to help you plan, here’s the final pre-conference updates and reminders:

1. Early Arrival and Building Access

The conference will be in the London College of Communication (LCC) building at Elephant & Castle, London, UK SE1 6SB.

Important: Your name badge will be your access pass to the conference venue. Please keep it with you at all times during the event. Visitors without the name badge will not be allowed by security to enter the building.

We’ll have a registration desk setup right when you enter the building before the security. It’ll be staffed between 8:30-10am. If you’re arriving after 10am, you can pick up your name tag at the security desk.

If you’re taking public transit to get to LCC, please budget enough time to arrive by the start of our first session by 9am. We’ll have coffee/tea and pastries each morning from 8:30am to 9:00am.

If it’s your first time visiting LCC, we encourage you to do a virtual tour of the surrounding area, building entrance and lobby to help you orient yourself before you arrive in the morning:

2. Conference Schedule

For the most up-to-date schedule, please consult the online program at https://socialmediaandsociety.org/schedule

If you prefer a physical copy of the schedule, we prepared a high-level schedule printout for self-printing: https://socialmediaandsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/SMSociety24-Print-Schedule.pdf

3. Conference WiFi

We will have a guest WiFi access. You can also use the eduroam signal in the building if your institution is part of the eduroam network.

4. Information for Presenters

If you’re a presenter, please check the online schedule to confirm your session’s date/time and room. Please also review the logistical details about the length of your presentation and how to get ready for it: https://socialmediaandsociety.org/presenters-info

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your session starts so that you can meet your session moderator and set up your slides.

5. Welcome Remarks Session

Please note that due to space limitation, the welcome remarks scheduled for 9:00 to 10:00am on Day 2 will be held in two separate rooms. If you arrive late and the main room (LTA) is full, a volunteer will direct you to the spillover room (LTB).

6. Accessibility requirements

The conference takes place over two floors of London College of Communication (LCC). There are stairs and accessible lifts to get from one floor to the next. The front door does have assisted opening, and corridors and conference rooms are also over 1.2m wide and should be easily accessible. However, LCC is also a characterful building with quirks. We are friendly and want to make sure you have a good experience, so please do speak to the conference organizers, LCC reception or get in touch with [email protected] if you have any other requirements or would like assistance in any way.

7. Attendance Certificate

You’re welcome to attend as many sessions as you wish. Your conference attendance certificate will be emailed to all attendees who picked-up their name badges.

We are excited to welcome you to SMSociety’24 and look forward to an engaging and informative conference.

Best regards,

The SMSociety Organizing Team
