Dear #SMSociety Community,

As the 2024 International Conference on Social Media & Society (#SMSociety) approaches, we have some important and exciting news about the conference’s future.
After many successful years of stewardship, the founders and current organizers, Anatoliy Gruzd and Philip Mai from the Social Media Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University, will be passing the torch to a new team of organizers based in the UK. Over the past 14 years, Anatoliy and Philip have dedicated countless hours to guiding the #SMSociety conference from its humble beginnings to become the premier venue for sharing and discovering new interdisciplinary research on how social media affects society. Their commitment and passion have been invaluable, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to them.

However, change is inevitable, and we are excited to announce that Dr. Zoetanya Sujon, the Digital Cultures and Economies research hub, from the London College of Communication (LLC) at the University of the Arts London, and Dr. Harry T. Dyer from the University of East Anglia will lead a new group of organizers. Our new UK-based team is eager to continue the tradition of excellence established by their Canadian predecessors.

As we transition to this new chapter, we are confident that whether you’re a seasoned researcher or a newcomer to the field, the #SMSociety conference will continue to be an excellent venue for stimulating discussions, insightful presentations, and networking opportunities with fellow scholars.
Thank you for being part of the #SMSociety community. We look forward to welcoming you to London in July for an engaging and memorable conference experience.
Best regards,
The SMSociety Organizing Committee
