Source: http://www.nodexlgraphgallery.org/Pages/Graph.aspx?graphID=42740Dhiraj Murthy, author of Twitter: Social Communication in the Twitter Age (2013), will be running this very basic introductory workshop on analysis of social media data using social network analysis. Dhiraj will introduce a range of techniques and tools for social network analysis of social media data, including Twitter and Facebook data. This is an introductory workshop which will be ideal if you’re just starting out and want to gain a grounding in the main tools and approaches for the analysis of social media networks. The software package NodeXL will be briefly introduced as a platform for social data gathering.

Dhiraj Murthy’s current research explores social media, virtual organizations, digital ethnography, and big data quantitative analysis. His work on social networking technologies in virtual breeding grounds was funded by the National Science Foundation, Office of CyberInfrastructure. Dhiraj also has a book about Twitter, the first on the subject, is published by Polity Press. His work also uniquely explores the potential role of social technologies in diversity and community inclusion. Dhiraj’s work on innovative digital research methods has been cited widely. Dhiraj founded and directed the Social Network Innovation Lab, an interdisciplinary research group investigating social networks and virtual organizations. For further information, visit his faculty webpage.
